Biography

Dr. Cappillino is the Associate Director of the Biotechnology Master's Program in the Division of Biology and Medicine. She brings over a decade of combined academic and industry experience in chemistry, biotechnology, and rare disease research.  Dr. Cappillino received her PhD in Chemistry from Boston University, with an emphasis on enzyme structure–function relationships, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Chemical Engineering at Stanford University. Following her academic training, she spent five years at Sanofi-Genzyme as a Research Scientist focusing on biomarker discovery and assay development, and later served as an Alliance and Program Manager at Takeda Pharmaceuticals, supporting rare disease programs and cross-functional partnerships. After several years in industry, Dr. Cappillino returned to academia, serving as an Assistant Teaching Professor at UMass Dartmouth prior to joining Brown University’s Biotechnology Program. She is passionate about teaching and mentoring students and is dedicated to helping trainees translate their academic experience into successful careers in industry. Dr. Cappillino teaches BIOL 2115-Translational Science and Management in Biotechnology.
